The Stuttgart manufacturer will supply the power unit and gearbox to the French team starting from the 2026 season.
The news had been circulating for months, but today the official announcement arrived: Renault is leaving Formula 1 as an engine supplier, and the Alpine team, ,starting from the 2026 season, marked by the new power units, will be equipped with Mercedes engines. The agreement also includes Mercedes providing its gearbox solutions. The contract will cover the entire technical regulations cycle beginning in 2026 and lasting until at least 2030.
Alpine is one of the youngest teams in the Formula 1 championship, having been rebranded in 2021 following the restructuring of the Renault F1 Team. From the outset, the team has focused on steady growth and an ambitious development program aimed at reaching the top of Formula 1. The alliance with Mercedes represents one of the most significant steps toward establishing itself as a championship contender, and it comes just ahead of the regulatory changes in 2026, when new engine rules are expected to make the competition even more exciting and open.
In the “engine market,” Alpine will replace Aston Martin, which will say goodbye to Mercedes to switch to an exclusive supply from Honda. Alpine will join McLaren and Williams, both of which also have contracts covering the entire technical regulation cycle, lasting until 2030.
Alpine-Mercedes partnership: the French team’s statement.
The partnership between Alpine and Mercedes, although anticipated for several months, was only officially confirmed a few minutes ago through a statement from the French team, which reads: “The multi-year agreement will see Mercedes-Benz supply Alpine with Power Units for the entire duration of the new regulatory era, from 2026 until at least 2030. In addition to the Power Units, Alpine will also receive Mercedes gearboxes starting from the 2026 season. The team remains focused on achieving the best possible performance in the 2024 and 2025 seasons.”
