by Stefano Zambroni

After several years, an Italian driver is back behind the wheel of a Ferrari: the official announcement of Antonio Fuoco in the SF-24 is expected soon

The countdown for the 2025 season has already begun. For the first time since 2021, we’ll see an Italian driver on the grid: Andrea Kimi Antonelli will bring the tricolor back to Formula 1. But until then, we’ll have the chance to enjoy another Italian driver in the paddock this 2024.

Ferrari still has one rookie session to complete before the season ends. Like many teams, Ferrari will use this opportunity at Abu Dhabi, although an unexpected issue has arisen for the team.

Ollie Bearman is no longer considered a rookie; having participated in his third Formula 1 race, the British driver is now fully classified as an official driver, meaning that putting him in the car would not fulfill the FIA’s two rookie session requirements.

Ferrari’s solution, barring any last-minute surprises, will be Antonio Fuoco. The Italian driver, currently competing in WEC with Ferrari’s Hypercar #50, will take the wheel of a Ferrari F1 car for the first time since 2020, when he participated in post-season tests at the same Emirati track.

This solution will bring an Italian driver back to Ferrari in an official session during a race weekend after several years. Excitement is high for the talent from Cariati, fresh off a win at the 24 Hours of Le Mans.
