Results of the MotoGP Sprint in Malaysia: Jorge Martin triumphs, followed by Marquez and Bastianini. Bagnaia is OUT.
Martin WINS, and the championship is now in his hands! A dominant victory for the world leader, who now extends his lead to +29 over Pecco Bagnaia, who crashed on lap 3. A devastating mistake for the Italian rider: the championship now seems firmly in the grasp of the Spanish rider, who could celebrate his first MotoGP title as early as tomorrow.
Completing the podium are Marc Marquez and Enea Bastianini, with Alex Marquez finishing fourth and an extraordinary Fabio Quartararo in fifth position.
Sprint Race Recap
THE START – Martin and Bagnaia take off strongly, but the Spaniard gets the better launch: number 89 takes the lead, followed by Pecco and Marc Marquez. Enea Bastianini is fourth, while Alex Marquez drops from third to fifth position.
The three leaders pull away, clocking impressive lap times: Bagnaia records the fastest lap in 1:57.872, demonstrating an excellent race pace.
However, a shocking turn of events occurs on lap 3: Bagnaia CRASHES! A devastating outcome for the championship: the Italian, while chasing Jorge Martin, loses the front end and exits the race. Disappointment and sadness for number #1, who now faces an almost impossible task to win his third consecutive championship.
Positions remain unchanged as Martin crosses the finish line: if he scores 9 points more than Bagnaia tomorrow, he will be crowned world champion.
