Here is the special F1 2024 ranking after the August summer break: Norris leads, Leclerc surpasses Verstappen!
Three weeks of break and plenty of anticipation before the Austin weekend begins: Formula 1 enters its autumn pause after a string of important races between the summer break and the last Grand Prix in Singapore. It’s clear that McLaren has now officially become the top force in the championship: the MCL38 is now the car to beat, overshadowing a Red Bull team that has lost its edge in recent months.
The standings from Zandvoort until now
This is the provisional Formula 1 standings for 2024, considering only the races after the August summer break:
1- Lando Norris – 80 points
2- Oscar Piastri – 70 points (-10)
3- Charles Leclerc – 68 points (-12)
4- Max Verstappen – 54 points (-26)
5- George Russell – 39 points (-41)
6- Carlos Sainz – 28 points (-52)
7- Lewis Hamilton – 24 points (-56)
8- Fernando Alonso – 13 points (-67)
9- Sergio Perez – 13 points (-67)
10- Alex Albon – 8 points (-72)
It’s surprising to see Max Verstappen in fourth place, even behind Leclerc. The Dutch driver continues to struggle with an RB20 that no longer measures up to its predecessor, so much so that a drivers’ championship, which seemed locked in a few months ago, now appears at risk with Norris on the rise.
At the top, it’s a McLaren 1-2: the MCL38 shows no weaknesses in any scenario, despite the recent FIA directive banning the “mobile” rear wing. Special mention goes to Franco Colapinto: in just three races, he’s earned an 8th, 11th, and 12th place, collecting four points—more than Logan Sargeant has accumulated in his career.
