Formula 2 returns for the third-to-last round of the season at the Azerbaijani circuit with the debut of three rookies: Gabriele Minì, Luke Browning, and Christian Mansell. Here are the results of the F2 free practice sessions in Baku!

The only F2 Free Practice session in Baku has just concluded, kicking off the Azerbaijan Grand Prix, the third-to-last round of the season for the junior category. Enzo Fittipaldi was the fastest, followed by Maini and Antonelli. Rounding out the Top 10 are: Maloney, Hauger, Mini, Martins, Mansell, Correa, and Hadjar.

A great start for the Palermitan Gabriele Minì, who is substituting for Oliver Bearman, currently engaged in Formula 1. Minì recorded the fifth-best time of 2:03.938, while Victor Martins was the fastest with a time of 2:01.688, three-tenths ahead of Juan Manuel Correa. The first to go under 2:00.00 was Enzo Fittipaldi with a time of 1:59.550, ahead of Zane Maloney and Kimi Antonelli. The F2 drivers continue to improve at Baku, with Maini setting the fastest time of 1:58.896 with 24 minutes remaining. However, it’s a constant back and forth between the Indian driver and the Brazilian.

A red flag was waved twenty minutes before the end due to a spin by Campos Racing driver Josep Maria Martí in Turn 6. The Spanish driver managed to avoid hitting the wall, leaving his car undamaged. At the same time, a few drops of rain began to appear on the Azerbaijani circuit.

At the back of the field, the other two rookies for this weekend recorded the eighth-fastest time, with Christian Mansell, replacing Zak O’Sullivan, setting a time of 1:59.766. Luke Browning, substituting for Roman Stanek, clocked the fourteenth-fastest time with 2:00.722. When free practice resumed, another red flag was waved due to Oliver Goethe crashing into the wall at Turn 15, leading to the session being interrupted and then restarting with just one minute left.

The Formula 2 drivers will return to the track at 13:00 (Italian time) this afternoon for the qualifying session, which will determine the pole positions for the Sprint and Feature Races.
