Luke Browning will take the place of his fellow countryman Zak O’Sullivan, who will not complete the season with ART due to financial issues

Yesterday, in a completely unexpected announcement, Zak O’Sullivan revealed in a post on his Instagram profile that he will not be completing the Formula 2 season with the ART team due to budget issues. Today, the French team promptly announced his replacement: Luke Browning will take the place of his fellow countryman, with the opportunity to gain experience ahead of a potential full-time seat in 2025.

The British driver, born in 2002, has been a member of the Williams Driver Academy since the beginning of 2023, just like O’Sullivan, and was one of the standout drivers of this Formula 3 season, finishing in third place behind the Italian duo of Leonardo Fornaroli and Gabriele Minì. However, Luke Browning’s name will surely be remembered by the most passionate fans for his extraordinary victory at the 2023 Macau Grand Prix in Formula 3, where he triumphed over renowned names such as Dennis Hauger and Dan Ticktum.

Therefore, the driver swap takes place entirely within the Williams Academy, which is a major player at this stage of the season, following the dismissal of Sargeant in favor of another driver from the Grove junior program, Franco Colapinto. Therefore, it cannot be ruled out that, in addition to financial issues, there may also be sporting reasons.

Here is the statement released by the ART team: “Following Luke Browning’s third-place finish in the FIA Formula 3 Championship, ART Grand Prix is pleased to announce that, starting from this weekend’s event in Baku, Azerbaijan, Luke will join the team for the remainder of the F2 season and race alongside Victor Martins.”

“Zak O’Sullivan will unfortunately not be able to complete the season with us, but we want to extend our thanks for his hard work throughout the season, which included a Feature race win at the prestigious Monaco race and a Sprint race win at Spa Francorchamps”.

We are excited to welcome Luke to the team. He is a talented driver, with a proven track record, including two Feature race wins this year in Formula 3 and we are confident that he will bring great energy and skill to our team for the final three rounds”.
