Kimi Antonelli’s first words after the crash: “52G lateral, strong impact. It was my mistake, now I’m resting at the hotel”
It wasn’t the debut Kimi Antonelli had hoped for in today’s first practice session of the Monza weekend. The Italian driver initially made a positive impression with his incredible speed, even setting the fastest sector time of the session before the crash, leaving Toto Wolff astonished.
However, the crash abruptly ended his hopes of showcasing his talent to a larger audience. The 2006-born driver experienced a severe impact, with a lateral force of 52G.
Kimi Antonelli’s words
So, Kimi Antonelli spoke shortly after the session ended, despite the severe impact he experienced just a few minutes earlier: “This has been a day that I don’t even know how to describe… intense, I’d say. I did my first-ever FP1, but unfortunately, it ended quickly due to a pretty severe crash, with about a 52G lateral impact.”
“I’m really sorry for the team and especially for George, who had to work extra because of me. It was my mistake; I pushed a bit too hard considering the conditions, and I should have approached the session more progressively instead of going for the limit right from the start.”
“I’ve definitely learned my lesson for next time. I’m really grateful to the team for making all of this possible, and despite everything, it’s great to see the fans out there and get my first laps with all the drivers on track. Now I’m heading home to rest and focus on the rest of the F2 weekend because there are still races to run, and we’ll try to get a good result. I’m not in the best physical condition after today’s crash”, Antonelli concluded.
