Oliver Goethe joins F2: Replacing Franco Colapinto at MP Motorsport

MP Motorsport announces Oliver Goethe’s move to F2: with Colapinto’s departure to F1, the Dutch team has found his replacement

A chain reaction was set off by Franco Colapinto’s arrival in Formula 1. Rumors about Logan Sargeant leaving the grid began circulating right after his nasty crash on Saturday morning at Zandvoort, which resulted in his Williams being totaled and causing millions in repair costs.

The news of Sargeant’s departure came simultaneously with the announcement of Franco Colapinto: the Argentine driver, who had been a standout in Formula 2 with MP Motorsport, has left the Orange team to take over Logan Sargeant’s seat, fulfilling his dream of reaching Formula 1.

His empty seat will now be occupied by Oliver Goethe: so far, the German driver has had a solid season in Formula 3, including an incredible streak of 12 consecutive points finishes (considering the many variables in the junior categories). He will now leave Campos Racing in F3, even though he still has a slim chance of winning the world title.

In turn, Campos will replace Goethe with Noah Stromsted, a 17-year-old Dane who raced with the team in the 2023 Spanish F4, securing several podiums. Stromsted has also achieved two podiums in FRECA, where he is currently 8th in the standings.

Goethe’s words

“Even though I have no experience with this F2 car, the two seasons I spent in FIA F3 gave me a solid foundation for this step”, Goethe said following the confirmation of his move. “My goals for this weekend are to absorb all the information MP Motorsport provides me with and learn as much as I can. It won’t be easy, even on a track I know well, because all my competitors have so much more experience than me, and the call came so late that I didn’t have a chance to do simulator prep for F2.”

“But in some ways, this is similar to my FIA F3 debut in 2022, where I joined the series mid-season, scored points on my first attempt, and finished P4 in the Feature Race at Spa. Overall, I’m happy with my consistency this year, my wins, and my podiums. I’m a bit sad that I can’t finish my F3 season as planned; I would have loved to go out with a bang with my Campos Racing team. I wish them and the drivers still in the title fight the best of luck. I’ll definitely be following the races.”
