Charles Leclerc and Carlos Sainz faced tough sessions at Zandvoort, with disappointing feedback from the SF-24: Fred Vasseur commented on the situation
Friday at Zandvoort outlined the general hierarchy, with McLaren and Mercedes swapping positions at the top, while a struggling and problematic Ferrari trailed behind. The FP1 saw limited track action due to complicated weather conditions, but the FP2 data provides a clearer picture.
In the last session of the day, the SF-24 proved inferior to McLaren, Mercedes, and Red Bull in all aspects. To make matters worse, Sainz encountered a gearbox issue that forced him to end the session early.
Vasseur’s Perspective
The Maranello team principal spoke to Sky Sport Italy about the performance: “Zandvoort is a challenging track, and there’s definitely work to be done to optimize the setup. Unfortunately, we could only run with one car this afternoon due to Carlos’ issue, which isn’t ideal; we only had two sessions to test, with FP1 being held in wet conditions. If the conditions are good tomorrow, we’ll have two stints to improve and fix the situation .”
Vasseur added: “Charles put in several laps, completing tests on both driving and race pace, and this work will pay off tomorrow. Zandvoort is a track where small differences are crucial, and although it will be a tough weekend, we need to be smart and bring home as many points as possible before we shift our focus to Monza.”
