Back from Summer Break: F1 at Zandvoort – Weather and Schedule for Max Verstappen’s Home Grand Prix
The summer break is officially over: three weeks have passed since the Belgian Grand Prix, won by George Russell but awarded to Lewis Hamilton after Russell’s disqualification. The Circus now heads to the Netherlands: Formula 1 is at Max Verstappen’s home track, the only driver to have won here since its return to the calendar in 2021.
Zandvoort Circuit
The Zandvoort Circuit, located in the seaside town of Zandvoort in the Netherlands (known as Circuit Park Zandvoort), runs along the North Sea coast and features a layout characterized by fast corners and elevation changes, which often allow drivers to explore different lines through the same section of the track. Originally opened in 1948, the circuit has been modernized over the years to meet modern Formula 1 standards, with its return to the calendar in 2020, though the first race took place in 2021 due to COVID.
The most distinctive feature of Zandvoort is its undulating configuration: high-speed corners, such as the famous “Hugenholtzbocht” and “Scheivlak,” have such inclines that make the cars’ passage incredibly thrilling. Additionally, the proximity to the sea contributes to an often unpredictable climate, which can significantly impact the race.
