MotoGP Austria Results: Pecco Bagnaia dominates the weekend at Spielberg, with Martin and Bastianini on the podium. Marquez fights from 14th to 4th, and Bezzecchi shows improvement
After winning the Sprint yesterday, Pecco Bagnaia once again triumphs in the main MotoGP race on Sunday. The reigning world champion from Chivasso dominated the Red Bull Ring, extending his lead in the championship. Bagnaia now tops the standings, moving 5 points ahead of Jorge Martin.
Jorge Martin finished second, repeating yesterday’s 1-2 result. Despite a strong performance, the Pramac rider lost 8 points to his rival in the overall standings. Enea Bastianini completed the podium, finishing 3rd, although 7 seconds behind his victorious teammate.
Marc Marquez claimed 4th place after a dramatic race. The Spanish rider was involved in an unavoidable collision with Morbidelli at the start, dropping to 14th by the end of the first lap. He then mounted an impressive comeback, making up for yesterday’s crash. Brad Binder took 5th, while Marco Bezzecchi showed signs of improvement with a 6th-place finish, aiming for redemption after a tough start to the season.
The top-10 was rounded out by Vinales, Morbidelli, Aleix Espargarò, and Alex Marquez. Fabio Quartararo struggled, finishing 18th and out of the points.
Race Recap
START – The Martin-Bagnaia duo had a flawless start, maintaining their grid positions. Meanwhile, Marc Marquez had a disastrous start, failing to engage his holeshot device and then getting clipped by Morbidelli in Turn 1, dropping to 14th. Enea Bastianini moved up to 3rd.
On Lap 2, Bagnaia overtook Martin for the lead. Martin attempted to fight back within the same lap, but Bagnaia defended his position masterfully. Meanwhile, Marquez began his charge through the field, advancing to 8th, just behind a less competitive Aleix Espargarò. In his pursuit of Miller, Marquez had a close call, barely managing to stay on track.
A lap later, Miller crashed in Turn 2A, losing the front end after entering too fast, ending his race after his 2025 is decided. Up front, Bagnaia and Martin extended their lead, with Bagnaia a second clear of Martin.
The excitement continued with Marc Marquez battling Marco Bezzecchi for 5th. After several attempts, Marquez passed the future Aprilia rider. Then, he quickly overtook Binder to secure 4th: despite his strong recovery, the race ended with the positions largely unchanged over the final 10 laps.
