Pecco Bagnaia has commented for the first time on Marc Marquez joining Ducati: “If we start shouting and arguing, it will be a disaster for everyone”
There are no half-measures: Bagnaia made it clear that having the two most dominant MotoGP riders of recent years on the same team could be a double-edged sword. “Either a success or a disaster”, was Pecco’s initial take on coexisting with Marquez, who is certainly not known for being a calm rider on the track.
Bagnaia knows well the risks, talent, and speed of the Spanish champion, which is why the Italian has seemingly long focused on improving himself rather than commenting on other riders’ choices. An approach that is currently working great: even Bezzecchi recently praised Pecco’s mindset, calling him “a rider without an adolescence”.
Pecco Bagnaia’s Words
Here’s what Pecco Bagnaia said to MotoGP microphones: “I always look at the data of other riders at every circuit. For example, I did it at Jerez with Marquez to understand how to take turns 7-8: I followed his way and went faster. I do it often, also with Martin, Enea, and Bezzecchi. I think losing all three of them is a big loss because they are all great riders, and you’re giving the other manufacturers three super-fast riders. Seeing the data of eight riders is the easiest way to improve, and unfortunately, this year, we will lose three of those eight”.
Bagnaia continued, not forgetting the “change of direction” made by the Borgo Panigale manufacturer: “I think Ducati has changed its strategy in choosing riders over time. In the past, they gave young riders the chance to reach the Factory team, believing in them and giving them the opportunity to fight with the best materials. Now, however, they’ve chosen to take Marquez, who is currently the most titled rider on the MotoGP grid. He will surely be super competitive, considering he’s already very fast with a bike more or less similar to mine, but being in Red will give him more motivation”.
Then, the admission: “Coexisting between us in 2025? It could go very well, or it could be a disaster… It could become a disaster if we start shouting or arguing, but I am convinced that we are both intelligent enough and that he will adapt perfectly to Ducati”, Pecco concluded.
