Mohamed Ben Sulayem, President of the FIA, has announced that “Statements against the Federation will be punished more severely.”
Tensions between the FIA and Formula 1 continue. After recent disagreements (such as the entry of Andretti into the sport) and frequent comments from F1 drivers that have not been favorable toward the Federation, President Mohamed Ben Sulayem has made a clear statement: The FIA will no longer tolerate comments against officials, and punishments for insulting remarks will now be stricter. He even emphasized that “hate towards officials is being fueled by the comments from drivers and teams”.
The FIA changes: Stricter rules for criticizing the Federation
Ben Sulayem shared on his social media: “As part of our ongoing fight against online abuse, recent investigations have shown that there is a direct link between negative comments from drivers and team members and increased hate directed towards officials on social media.”
At the last World Motor Sport Council, members approved a change to the definition of misconduct within the ISC following incidents in which high-profile members of our sport made statements towards officials that incite abuse.
This change will ensure further support for FIA Officials and Volunteers, who dedicate their time to improving our sport, keeping it safe and fair.
Our Stewards must be prepared to show strength when combating this form of abuse, and they have my full support, along with the support of our International Sporting Code, when making their decisions.
I urge them to show that the FIA will not allow any kind of abuse within our sport”, he concluded.
