The Dutch Grand Prix at Zandvoort might still be held after 2025, but with one exception: There is a possibility that it could alternate with the weekend at Spa-Francorchamps.
A few days ago, there was talk about the risk that the Dutch Grand Prix at Zandvoort, Max Verstappen’s home race, might no longer be included in the Formula 1 calendar. However, according to the publication Formule 1, an agreement has been reached to keep the Dutch Grand Prix as part of the calendar even after 2025, alternating with the Belgian Grand Prix.
During the Grand Prix at the Spa-Francorchamps circuit last week, the director of the circuit in the Netherlands, Robert van Overdijk, had stated that ‘it is a fact that the last race at Zandvoort will take place in 2025‘; however, according to the Dutch publication, a person directly involved in the negotiations with Liberty Global has confirmed that an agreement has been reached and that the announcement could be made during the next Dutch Grand Prix, which will kick off the second part of the season scheduled for August 23-25.
One of the factors behind these significant changes in the championship schedule is undoubtedly the increasing competition from countries interested in hosting a Formula 1 weekend, including Turkey, Germany, South Africa, Saudi Arabia, and several Asian countries (Thailand, South Korea, and Indonesia).
GP in Zandvoort, at Max Verstappen’s home
The Dutch Grand Prix returned to the calendar in 2021 after a long absence of 35 years, and all subsequent races at Zandvoort have been won by the local hero, Max Verstappen. Just last year, on his home turf, he equaled Sebastian Vettel’s record by securing his 9th consecutive victory (now 10, all achieved by the three-time world champion).
Additionally, besides being highly valued by Liberty Global and FOM for the entertainment it provides, the Dutch weekend is also distinguished by its sustainability: 98% of visitors reach the race days at Zandvoort in a sustainable manner, using bicycles or public transportation.
