Shocking at Alpine: Bruno Famin, the team’s principal, is reportedly ready to resign after this weekend’s Belgian Grand Prix

A real shock, the latest for a team as fragile as Alpine in this period: Team Principal Bruno Famin is reportedly ready to resign after this weekend’s Belgian Grand Prix.

(L to R): Famin (FRA) Alpine Motorsports Vice President with Pierre Gasly (FRA) Alpine F1 Team. Formula 1 World Championship, Rd 2, Saudi Arabian Grand Prix, Wednesday 6th March 2024. Jeddah, Saudi Arabia.

A truly surprising decision, reported by RN365: it is now up to Luca de Meo and Flavio Briatore to take control of the team during a weekend where Alpine will sport red and black colors for Deadpool and Wolverine. The reasons for this move are not yet known, although it appears to be due to project disagreements and poor results so far.

The Career of Bruno Famin

Bruno Famin has been in the motorsport world for many years, with a career primarily within the PSA Group and then the FIA. A mechanical engineering graduate, Famin began his career working for Peugeot Sport, where he held various technical and managerial roles. The Frenchman was crucial to Peugeot’s success in endurance racing, such as the 24 Hours of Le Mans, and in rally raids, like the Dakar, where the Peugeot team achieved several victories under his leadership.

In 2019, Famin was appointed Director of Operations for the FIA, the international governing body of motorsport. In this role, he oversaw the technical and sporting operations of the championships managed by the FIA, helping to ensure compliance with technical and sporting regulations. In 2021, he was announced as the Sporting Director of Alpine Racing, the Formula 1 team owned by the Renault Group, and in 2023, he became Team Principal following Otmar Szafnauer’s departure.
