Let’s discover the figure of Loic Serra, who from October 2024 will be at the center of Vasseur’s project in the Scuderia Ferrari.
Ferrari is experiencing a shake-up, something that became evident in recent weeks. Today, however, the official announcement of Enrico Cardile’s departure has arrived: with a statement on the official website, the Scuderia of Maranello has decided to further revolutionize its organizational structure, changing from minor figures to key team members. A significant new addition is Loic Serra: let’s find out who is the man who, from October 2024, will replace Cardile.
Loic Serra’s Biography
Born in Nancy, France, on March 30, 1972, Serra is one of the most well-known engineers in the Formula 1 landscape. Serra studied mechanical engineering at the prestigious Arts et Métiers ParisTech, attending the campuses of Aix-en-Provence and Paris. After graduating, he began his career with Michelin, one of the world’s leading tire suppliers. His initial work in Bad Kreuznach, Germany, and later in the research and development center in Clermont-Ferrand, France, allowed him to acquire a deep understanding of vehicle design and especially the tire-asphalt relationship.
Entry into Formula 1
In 2002, Loic Serra had his first opportunity to work directly in the Formula 1 world, developing an innovative suspension system for Michelin, which was then offered to F1 client teams. His dedication and expertise led him to become an integral part of Michelin’s Formula 1 department until the company’s withdrawal from the series in 2006, when Bridgestone took over.
Determined to stay in the Formula 1 world, Serra was hired by BMW Sauber as the chief designer responsible for vehicle performance. After BMW’s withdrawal from Formula 1, Serra moved to the Mercedes-AMG Petronas F1 Team, where he played a crucial role in developing the cars that dominated the championship in the following years. In 2019, he was promoted to director and head of performance, overseeing various technical aspects of the team and contributing to the team’s successes.
In 2023, Serra left Mercedes, and after a period of gardening leave, it was announced that he would take on a key role at Ferrari in May 2024. This transfer takes on even more significance after Cardile’s departure: now, it is necessary to wait until October to see Serra’s influence on the future Ferrari 677.
